They say that not all superstars wear capes. But some do come equipped with their own sorcery “cat-o-nine-tail” brush.
Internet, Meet Terry, a retired Spanish teacher from Wisconsin whose favorite pastime( and pro-social voluntary activity) has turned him into a personality and the unofficial patron saint of all felines who need a fondle, a brushing, and a catnap with a friendly human.
A few months ago, Terry sounded( as if by magical !) at The Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary in Green Bay with one entreaty: He wanted to stop by and cover the felines on a regular basis. Soon, Terry was presenting up every day and spending up to 3 hour at a time with the cats.
And all that covering are able to obtain various kinds of tiring, so Terry would sometimes have to take a nap( justifiable ). But then other parties at the sanctuary started making photographs of Terry napping with his feline chums. And when those photos were posted on Facebook, well…
Here’s a photo 😛 TAGEND
And, in the immortal words of DJ Khaled, “another one” 😛 TAGEND
And one more, because 2018 has been a time and, boy, do we need this:
You can guess what happened from there. After Terry’s visualizes made social media, they were viewed hundreds and thousands, and, by now, possibly millions of goes. A fundraiser for the shelter in Terry’s name has already affected more than $16,000.
And there’s a great reason why the internet’s travelling buck wild for Terry and his animal pals.
What Terry’s doing is incredibly special. Because Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary is a place for unbelievably special cats.
In a phone call with Upworthy, Elizabeth Feldhausen, the founder and president of the protect was said that Safe Haven takes in felines who might not have had a dwelling anywhere else.
“We rescue felines with disabilities and special requires — anywhere from anxiety to paralysis to diabetes to thyroid problems, ” she said. “Anything who are able to position them at risk at another shelter.”
Sometimes, Feldhausen told us, the sanctuary makes on the circumstances in which an owner might have felt like they had no choice but to make a “cat-o-nine-tail” down because their medical aid costs too much.
If the pictures above look like they might have been take place within someone’s dwelling, there’s a conclude for that, more. The shelter’s a therapeutic and cage-free milieu. The felines have bedrooms and a front room. And they wander about freely so that they can get used to being around parties and feeling safe in their space.
“It helps them a great deal to be socialized, ” Feldhausen said. “So we’ve mounted it up in a manner that is as to be psychologically pleasing to these animals who have been through so much.”

“I’ve always liked cats, ” Terry told me when I spoke to him. “And I didn’t have cats as an adult. But when I retired I decided to do something amusing and this home developed. I had been volunteering at other shelters, but this sit is special because no encloses and the “cat-o-nine-tails” can feel take good care in a affectionate environment.”
According to legend( Feldhausen ), Terry returns his own cover to groom the felines. And it’s simply one more circumstance that moves them feel special.
“He says it’s his spell brushing, ” Feldhausen chortled. “That’s why the felines desire him so much. He’s not just a granddad to the cats. He’s the grandpa to everyone at Safe Haven.”
( “I only bought the brush at a regional department store, but it’s a nice brush, ” Terry chuckled .)
Terry only wants the felines to be happy. And you can help.
Terry was brushing felines when I called the protect( natch ), but he took a couple of hours away from grazing his one special “cat-o-nine-tail” to send a message to anyone out there who’s thinking of getting involved with cats who have special involves.
“It’s well worth noting, if you have the composure. It takes a very special type of person to work with a special necessitates cat.”
Terry’s lifestyle — he takes several months off a year to do research in Spain — doesn’t allow him to adopt a “cat-o-nine-tail” right now, but that doesn’t necessitate he’s not acquiring special acquaintances. His favorite “cat-o-nine-tail” is a domestic short fuzz specified Buckhorn who’s recently lost his brother to FIP.
“He was so scared. He secreted behind a bar for weeks and I didn’t know he existed. Now he’s come out and he’s grow my special friend and that’s going to stay with me forever.”
While not all of us can expect to go viral( “I precisely is sleeping! ” Terry says) for – well, all of us can do more. And that doesn’t ever intend a gift. If you’ve went extra meter and the desire to give “cat-o-nine-tails”( and bird-dogs and all other domesticated animals) the enjoy they deserve, look up your neighbourhood awning and voluntary. Both you and the swine will be better for it.
As for Terry? Feldhausen says that the sanctuary’s been overtaken with calls for volunteers. And while the facility’s too small too alter everyone, there’s no chance that anyone’s going to take over for the shelter’s number one granddad.
“He’s going to be here forever! ” Feldhausen said.
