Social media giants have immense capability over public debate. They need to be more open about how they maintained that power
In the United States at large, your privilege to free speech is protected by democratic institutions. Online, however, who gets to say what is based on the judgment of unelected organizations. What you say, and what the hell are you ensure, varies depending on findings made by the guardians of the social media “commons”.

Wikipedia’s reliability is due to its democratic prototype: parties trust it because it achieves consensus through a transparent process. None has more access to knowledge of the practices than anybody else, and with an elected” supreme court” and editable core policies, Wikipedia shows how speech regulation can be conducted in a completely transparent and comparatively participatory way.
Twitter and Facebook have shown that they shouldn’t be trusted to determine difficult decisions about the limits of lecture. Congressional agents make for even more severe police officer. There’s no excellent method to decide how to deal with lies, detest, and provocation on major platforms. But the best solution is a Wikipedia model for social media: consumers should define and enforce the terms of service communally, through a muddled democratic process.
If Jack Dorsey is truly interested in the question he queried Congress:” How do we give the trust of the people exploiting our service ? ” there’s an self-evident explanation: call a” constitutional convention” and let the peoples of the territories themselves determine and alter Twitter’s practices.
